Webinar

I have been watching the videos that our professor sent us on our email address and I found them really interesting. I had never heard before about webinars and I already feel like I learned something new even without reading about it. After watching some videos online I also decided to insert one here just as an example. It`s about learning grammar through writing, speaking, listening and reading classes. The person who directs it is a professor of applied linguistics and for the moment her location is in the mountains in Northern Arizona and it snows. In the video even if I am not a participator I and interacting I feel part of  it because we share the same goals that is of teaching students in the best way possible. She has included in the webinar many aspects of teaching grammar through the theory through different tasks ,giving real life examples like that of Jamaican English, inserting pictures of textbooks etc..
There are lots of advantages of having seminars on the web(webinars). Webinars are online, so are easy and convenient to both presenters and participants, as no one has to travel to get to the meeting. No type of special equipment is needed, the presenter just broadcasts with a webcam to the participants. It is possible for an unlimited amount of audience to attend since it is online. It can be recorded so that other people can view in if they can’t attend the webinar. You can attach all kinds of information in the webinar like a short video, pictures, reading parts ,many different exercises which can be done by the participators. There is also a chat box where everyone can answer to questions done during the webinar. They can also express their ideas ,opinions through short messages, they can interact with each other without making any noise like it would happen in a traditional classroom.
Despite all these advantages we also have to take into consideration the facilities used for being part of a webinar. May not work on Mac computers or mobile devices. Internet speed must be adequate to allow participants to view the presentation without distortion or lag time. A webinar may not work with all kinds of Internet browsers. No communication is possible through body language if no video feed is available. All in all, a webinar offers great opportunities for both participants and presenters, but if you are going to do one, you should be aware of the possible drawbacks along with the advantages of this type of online training.
I hope you enjoyed reading it :)

  2. I agree that messages must be short if we want the teacher to read them. The noise also is not present in Webinars. I enjoyed it!
